This two day symposium includes speakers from a range of disciplinary perspectives, from sociology, education, and the creative arts, to performance, media, and literary studies. The symposium considers the roles of affect and/or emotion in processes of social, cultural or political crisis in the past and present. Topics include: theories and methodologies of emotion or affect in times of sudden change; societal and communal responses to change in the form of emotional regulation and practice; the intersection of emotion and disease; the relationship between emotion, affect and the body; and much else.
